Montmorillon, an exceptional heritage town beautifully situated on the Gartempe River.
Located 50km south-east of Poitiers and 80km north of Limoges, Montmorilon is home to a beautiful heritage which earned it the title of Capital of the Country of Art and History. A pleasant town with calm and flowery green spaces, Montmorillon surprises by its architectural diversity: overlooking the Gartempe, Notre-Dame church and the Sainte-Catherine crypt; below, the old 15th century Gothic bridge and the Old Palace, the House of God (11th century monastery), the Octagon (12th century Roman Chapel), the superb 17th and 18th century, including the Moussac hotel... The list is long, the town is full of architectural treasures. The picturesque district of Brouard is another a good example.

During the summer months, you will have the opportunity to attend many demonstrations by craftsmen who love their craft. Montmorillon is also known to be the capital of Macaron. Jewels of French pastry, the macaroon can be discovered during a visit to the museum of the almond and the macaroon, created by the Rannou-Métivier, specialist of this delicacy for five generations.
